4 Things I Learned When I Made My Bike Electric

Love cycling, hate feeling drained when you’ve finished a ride? An electric bike is the answer. You’ll be able to cycle for longer and feel stronger in body and mind. I made the switch recently and I love it. Here’s why.

You can take it easy going uphill

You and I have spent many long weekends cycling up hills, pushing our bodies to the limit. We cyclists love a challenge. It’s in our nature. And hills are your greatest two-wheeled challenge.

But getting to the top of a big hill leaves you:

  • Sweaty
  • Raw
  • Achy

Sometimes it’s nice to take things easy. The first thing I learned when I made my bike electric is that you decide how challenging hill cycling is.

Make sure you buy an e-bike with enough power to let you relax. One like the 2018 Easy Motion Electric: Atom Big Bud Pro makes even the biggest hills a breeze.

Wanna see how electric bikes give you the power to smash uphill cycling? Check out the video below:

Charge before you ride

Think back to the last time you went on a trip and forgot your cellphone charger. Remember your heart racing and sweat soaking through your shirt. Without your cell you’re helpless. Forgetting to charge your electric bike left me feeling the same.

I headed out on a short(ish) trip.

I’d charged my bike the last time I hit the roads. I had to have juice left in my bike. It was bound to be enough. Wrong.

One and a half hours in my charge died. My stomach dropped like a stone thrown down a well. I was stuck.

Long story short, my cell had enough battery. I called a friend. I got home. Make sure you’re not like me. Charge your bike fully before every ride. Many e-bikes are too heavy for you to move easily, so if you run out of power you could be waiting a long time for a ride home.

Electric bikes are great exercise for everyone

Everyone knows cycling’s amazing for your health. It helps expand your lung capacity, builds muscle definition, and makes pounds drop off you. E-bikes could not be better for you.

Before you shake me down on Twitter, listen to Sir Chris Hoy.

Great Britain’s gold medal record holder said this: “[E-bikes] are a nice combination of using your own human power and having a bit of assistance too. And once you’ve ridden an e-bike, you completely get it.”

He loves e-bikes. And who would question an Olympian?

But that’s not all.

A Norwegian study confirmed people who use electric bikes can push themselves harder. Why? Because you can:

  • Cycle 21% faster
  • Use 7% less of your lung capacity

Before you throw your push bike into a river, the study also says e-cycling is less intense. But this is great news. Why because it means everyone can get a great work out. No matter your age, fitness, or confidence. You can get a great exercise boost and travel as far as you like, without worrying about your body stopping you.

This TED Talk has more on the benefits of electric bikes:

E-Bikes can save the world

Are you only of the lucky ones in life? Did you inherit, create, established, or buy your own business? No? Then you travel to work.

If you’re super lucky you can walk. But most people aren’t lucky – 63% of people in the UK drive to work everyday.

But stop for a moment.

You don’t need a car to commute to work. Why? Because e-bikes are:

  • Cheaper than cars
  • More reliable than cars
  • Easier to look after than cars

You know already that electric bikes are good for you. That’s not all. They’re great for the planet. They don’t spew out poisonous gas and that’s a fact. Swap your car for an e-bike and you won’t only be doing yourself a good dead. You’ll be doing one for everyone.

Final thoughts

Electric bikes keep you fit and the plant healthy. They’re a great way for anybody to exercise and for you to get to work. Invest in one today and you’ll find more than four things you love about your bike.

Then, why not use the good energy you get from your exercise program to help someone else? Helping others is a great way to brighten their day and to feel even better about yourself.
